Everyone wants to save money on their wedding. But cutting important corners can lead you to a bad intersection, where you have to choose between Cheap Street, and Go-For-Broke Lane.

So while it's great to shave costs where you can in order to save a few bucks on your wedding reception, there are some places where experts don't recommend cutting corners. Here's our list:

  1. Don't rely on a family member to take your wedding photos, or forgo hiring a professional photographer. In the end, that is all you will have to preserve your day.
  2. Don't have a cash bar. Invited guests shouldn't have to pay for drinks.
  3. Don't serve bad food. Instead of serving a cheap dish, cut the sit-down dinner, and opt for a buffet or appetizer reception.
  4. Don't cut the cake or dessert from the dinner courses. You'll leave your guests yearning for something sweet.
  5. Don't have cocktails without hors d'oeuves. You don't want people filling up on alcohol while they're starving.
