The roaring twenties in all their glory relived at the Teahouse Restaurant in Vancouver where vintage glam meets modern bridal style in an early springtime debut. The lavish creations of Jenny Packham bridal and Monique Lhullier and Lazaro bridesmaids add a perfect combination of luxury and glamour, qualities that are synonymous with the abundance and affluence of the 1920's.

We invited Kailey Michelle Events, Bisou Bridal to join us in paying homage to "Gatsby" week by combining 2013 style with all the extravagance and splendour of this incredible bygone era. The results were stunning ~ and vividly documented by award winning photographer Matt Kennedy.

An image professional helps you pick your outfits

We get asked a lot by our clients “What should we wear for our engagement/couples session?”. It’s a good question. The point of this post however is not to go over what should and shouldn’t be worn by couples. It is rather, a look at how you can pick outfits, based on colour, that complement each other and add an extra level of professionalism to your final photos. There’s just something about a couple in complementary clothing that adds a real ‘wow factor’ to the final images from their engagement or couples session.

Nothing says fresh and new quite like the colour green! Green comes in a wide array of shades, ranging from a yellowish, pea-like hue all the way to turquoise! Green looks beautiful combined with earth tones, and therefore makes a wonderful choice for outdoor shoots and backdrops of wood and stone. Even small accents of green such as jewelry, scarves, or shoes, look wonderful with whites and tans.

Indigo – or deep blue – is a rich, exceedingly popular colour which looks beautiful in almost any setting. Outfits with blue elements create a sense of calm and quiet - perfect for a more introverted couple or natural backdrops.

Orange is a tangy, optimistic colour that demands attention! Strong, joyful, and happy, adding orange to your engagement session is always a hit on camera. Couples with a more extroverted nature might enjoy orange-themed outfits. Orange also looks wonderful in urban settings, such as against concrete, brick, and stone.

So exciting! Almost 2,500 images were submitted to the photo contest this year, more than ever before, from across Canada. Some 17,000 votes were casted, on our Facebook Page. The judges have now deliberated, everything has been tallied and we have our winners. Congratulations to Carli & Ryan and their photographer, Masika Allan.

Congratulations to all the other couples and their incredible photographers as well. And a great many thanks to the thousands of friends who voted for the favourites on Facebook! As always, the results were very very close. In many cases, when the judges were split, it made the decisive difference!
